Hunger Games, the movie

Last Sunday, I talked my husband into taking me to see The Hunger Games . I don't think he really expected to enjoy it, and he even fought me at first after we left the theater when I tried to talk about it, and discuss how I thought it transferred onto the big screen from the pages of the book. However, when we sat down to dinner, and on the way home, he would randomly ask a question here or there, until I got him into a full out discussion. And now? He wants to read the books. So, how does this phenomenon of a movie relate to the book? Is it any good? Absolutely. This is one of the best book to movie adaptations I've ever seen. I saw the Twilight movies, and I've seen the Harry Potter movies. I also, as mentioned in a previous post, have a love for classic lit books that are being turned into movies and mini-series. And Hunger Games blows them all out of the water. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some differences, and there are some small things I got nit picky wi

Catching Fire

Image
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins My rating: 5 of 5 stars Ok, so, Catching Fire picks up with Katniss and Peeta back in District 12. They are living in the Victor's Village, and just trying to live their lives as the Star-Crossed lovers still, to the best of their ability, when it's time for the Victor's Tour. They are going to tour all the districts, and show the country how wonderfully in love they are... and they better, because President Snow has come to see Katniss, and threaten everyone she knows and loves if she doesn't. SPOILER WARNING!!! Well, Peeta ends up doing a public proposal, and he and Katniss are still majorly playing up the Star-Crossed lovers bit, but President Snow says it's not enough. And then the time comes for the Quarter Quell. And the shocker? The reaping is going to come from the districts' previous victors. Katniss is going to have to go back into the arena. SPOILER OVER! The rest of the book really covers what happens in the games,

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins My rating: 5 of 5 stars SEMI-SPOILERS CONTAINED HEREIN! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! This is the story of Katniss Everdeen. She lives in a new world called Panem that was created from the ashes of the former continent of North America. Due to a rebellion that once happened in Panem, the country's government has decided to punish the people by forcing the 12 remaining districts to offer up "tribute" one male and female between the ages of 12 and 18 for the annual "Hunger Games" which is an arena battle to the death. The boy tribute from District 12 is Peeta Mellark. At the very beginning of the story, Katniss was not supposed to be tribute. Her sister, who is in the drawing for the first time, with only one slip in there gets picked. Katniss, who cannot bear to see her sister go, volunteers as tribute. The rest of the story follows the journey to the Hunger Games, and the Hunger Games themselves. A romance seems to begin to bloss

Hunted

Hunted by Evangeline Anderson My rating: 4 of 5 stars I'm really really really starting to get into Evangeline Anderson's series. I loved the first book, and where this one started out slow, it picked up, and has me on the edge of my seat for the next one. This is Sophie and Sylvan's book. Sophie had some pretty heavy stuff happen to her in the past that leads her to be afraid of Sylvan, and of Sylvan's fangs. The first part of the book, after Sylvan's shuttle crashes while trying to get Sophie back to Earth after the mating ceremony was kind of slow for me. I mean, we get a lot of back story on the two characters, which is nice, and some pretty hot scenes between Sylvan and Sophie, but other than that, this part of the book is pretty bland. It isn't, in my opinion, until after Sylvan and Sophie find their way back from this disaster that the book starts getting good. Sylvan starts distancing himself from Sophie, and Sophie doesn't know how to feel about

Fun extras post

Image
Well, this post is going to be a fun extras post. I've been working on a post in my head for a while about movies and books, books and movies. I also just found a super awesome little quiz on my favorite authors' website, which I will post at the end of this entry. :) So, let's get started. Well, I recently got into a chick flick mode, and so I pulled all the stops. I watched Pride & Prejudice, Persuasion, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and North & South. I am a total romance freak. I love Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, and Charlotte Bronte. I love classic literature that has since been turned into movies. The Pride & Prejudice I watch is the Kiera Knightly version, mainly because 1- I haven't seen the Colin Firth version, and 2- I really don't like Colin Firth. The persuasion I watch is the Ciaran Hinds version, Jane Eyre? The newest, with Mia Wasikowska. Wuthering Heights is the Tom Hardy version, because, Tom Hardy as Heathcliff? Can you say Yum?! North &
