Magic Breaks
Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is the best book of the series to date, and honestly, probably the best book I'll read all year.
Kate Daniels has finally settled into her life as Consort to Curran, her lover, and the Beast Lord of Atlanta. They are the ruling Alpha couple of The Pack, which is the ruling body of shapeshifters for Atlanta. But Kate holds a secret about her family, and if it were to ever come out, everyone and everything that she knows and loves will pay the price of it.
When Hugh D'Ambray shows up just as Curran heads out of town with several of the big members of the pack, Kate knows something is up. Hugh is her father's pet warlord, and someone she and Curran thought that they had killed several months before. When Hugh tries to start a war between the People, the ruling vampire faction in Atlanta, and the Pack, and threatens to expose Kate's secret, she realizes that she'll do anything to protect those she loves, even if it means finally coming face to face with her father.
Can Kate keep things in check until Curran gets back? Or will the Pack be facing war with the People? And when Kate finally faces her father, will she really be able to kill the man that gave her life?
If you have not read the Kate Daniels series yet, but love Urban Fantasy, well, shame on you. This is one of my favorite series, and honestly, it's amazing. As I said at the start, this is the best book of the series to date. The last book, Magic Rises, seemed like a bridge, and was almost stagnant compared to the other books... with the exception of the end. But this book was not in any way like that. This book was non-stop action from start to finish, and it will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat. I started it yesterday, and basically could not put it down.
Ilona Andrews has another winner with this book, and honestly, I'm eagerly awaiting what comes next! Note: This book does have a hint of finality to the ending, but the author, Ilona Andrews, has said that it is not the last book, for which I am eternally grateful! So, go pick up this book, and if you haven't already, go pick up the whole Kate Daniels series!
